compactly documentation
compactly is an open-source Claude Code mod for context compaction, task handoffs, and a cost and cache panel. It can evaluate likely task boundaries and compact a session with a handoff, or suggest a compaction for you to confirm.
Start here
- Install compactly and check the supported Claude Code version.
- Learn how boundary detection and handoffs work.
- Review the cost and cache panel and configuration options.
- Read what data is used in Privacy and data handling.
- Compare the built-in options with compactly's additional behavior.
Requirements
compactly requires Claude Code 2.1.295 or later. It installs through Claude Code's plugin system and works in the Claude Code CLI and desktop app. The mod may call Claude Code's configured model to judge a possible task boundary; see how it works and privacy before enabling automatic judging.
Install
Run these commands inside Claude Code, then start a new session:
/plugin marketplace add swapnildahiphale/compactly
/plugin install compactly@compactly
See installation, updates, and removal for other install scopes and commands.
Accuracy and cost
Boundary detection is heuristic and can be wrong. Model requests and costs depend on your Claude Code setup, model, and usage. compactly's panel provides estimates from observed token usage and bundled price assumptions; those figures are not billing records or guaranteed savings. No general measured savings result is available.
